5 Fun & Easy School Snack Ideas
by Jill Winter
We all know that giving kids snacks during the school day can help them focus and do better in school. Feeling full and having plenty of nutrition can go a long way towards helping your child's brain grow. These snacks, of course, need to be healthy to have the desired effect. To get kids to eat healthy snacks at school we need to look for fun school snack ideas to spice things up a bit. This can be as simple as decorating a healthy prepackaged snack or thinking outside the box to give your child something fun like frozen yogurt or even a convenient smoothie.
1. Decorated Apple Sauce or Fruit Cups
These are a fun snack to pack for school. With a little creativity and some spare art supplies, you can make nearly endless fun things out of these little containers. Even a set of wiggly eyes can spice up these simple snacks.
2. Use Colorful Bento Boxes
If your child's school allows homemade snacks you can go a long way with decorating bags of sliced vegetables like carrot sticks to make fun snacks. Using small split containers you can add several small fruits and vegetables with a spot available for a fun dip to spice up the snack.
3. Use Mason Jars
Mason Jars are great for packing snacks and lunches. The containers from fruit cups make a great place to store toppings and sauces right in the lid of the mason jar allowing you to add more flavor to less than fun healthy snacks.
4. Frozen Yogurt Tubes
Yogurt tubes can be frozen and packed in a small insulated tote. Bottle totes for babies are perfect for storing a yogurt tube or two with a frozen solid water bottle so the yogurt is still frozen like ice cream when the time comes for your child's snack.
5. Use Baby Food Pouches
Baby food pouches make a great snack. The smoothie-like texture and convenient single servings are great for a quick and easy to grab school snack. Take advantage of fun flavors that sneak in vegetables to a big advantage. If your child doesn't want to take a baby food pouch to school but wants the fun smoothie option you can often find them in adult sizes as well without any baby themed labels. Freeze these so they are thawed but cold by the time your child's snack time rolls around.
